Boot Care

CARE & CLEANING OF YOUR LANE BOOTS

The tips below are simply our suggestions. We highly recommend you ask your local retailer or cobbler about the best boot-care products and how to properly care for your boots. Take special care when cleaning and using shoe creams on your beautiful Lane embroidered boots—no matter what type of leather they are.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Store boots in a dry place.

  • Dry boots naturally if they get wet—don’t use a hairdryer or place them near a heater or in a plastic bag.

  • Keep boots out of heat and direct sunlight.

  • Clean, condition and protect boots according to the type of leather and finish. (See the specific recommended care instructions below.)

SMOOTH-FINISH LEATHERS: COWHIDE AND KIDSKIN

  • Remove loose dirt or dust with a soft brush or damp cloth.

  • Clean thoroughly with Lane Leather Conditioner or Lane Leather Balm.

  • Apply a thin coat of neutral shoe cream, then brush or buff with a soft cloth until the boots have a luster.

  • Apply a thin coat of wax polish-neutral paste on light colors, or match polish on dark colors, to get a high luster. This step also helps cover any scrapes and scratches.

NAKED-FINISH LEATHERS: NUBUCK AND MATTE

  • Remove loose dirt or dust with a soft brush or cloth.

  • Don’t use conditioners or creams, as they can discolor or darken the leather.

  • Apply a non-silicone water and stain proctor after purchase and after cleaning.

  • Allow boots to dry naturally.

  • Keep boots free of mud and other drying elements (e.g. wind, sun, and heat). Note: Treat the leather as you would your own skin and avoid elements that dry it out.

OIL-IMPREGNATED LEATHERS

  • Remove loose dirt or dust with a soft brush or cloth.

  • Replenish the leather’s natural oils with Lane Leather Conditioner.

  • Apply a non-silicone water and stain protector after purchase and after cleaning.

  • Allow boots to dry naturally.

DISTRESSED-FINISH LEATHERS

  • Remove loose dirt or dust with a soft brush or cloth.

  • Don’t use conditioners or creams, as they could change, discolor or darken the boot’s finish.

  • Note: Non-silicone water and stain protectors may alter this leather finish. Test a small, less-visible area of the boot before deciding to use it.

  • Allow boots to dry naturally.

SUEDE

  • Clean with a nylon suede brush.

  • Apply a non-silicone water and stain protector after purchase and after cleaning.

  • Allow boots to dry naturally.
